Italian teen, 16, drugged and gang-raped by African drug dealers in Rome
After using her for sex they left her to overdose on mattress without offering aid
In Rome, 18th October 2018, after missing her last bus home, 16 year old Desirée Mariottini from Cisterna di Latina, Italy visited a derelict building in the San Lorenzo district. The building was inhabited by homeless squatters and drug dealers who operated there.
Witnesses said she was there to buy drugs and met a group of African drug dealers.
The group then gave her a cocktail of strong drugs including tranquillizers which completely incapacitated the teenager.
Then when she was severely ill and possibly overdosing the African men took turns in raping and sexually molesting her.
When they finally noticed that she was not recovering, instead of getting help they apparently decided it was best to let her die, rather than risk jail time.
She was found dead at the site on the 19th.
An autopsy showed she had taken drugs as early as the afternoon of October 18, and died later on the night of 19 October. It also showed that Mariottini was likely raped as she was dying.

During the trial Narcisa Leon, an Ecuadorian woman who squatted in the abandoned site, told the court that she found the victim lying motionless on a dirty mattress.
Leon claimed that the suspects wanted the teenage girl to die to escape possible jail time.
She heard one of the defendants say “better she is dead than us be in prison”.
Other people who were apparently squatting at the site knew that the girl was badly hurt, but did nothing after hearing what the suspected drug dealers had said.
She also said that one of the suspects, Mamadou Gara, confirmed in a conversation with her that they had given the victim a strong tranquilliser and that he had then had “sex with her”.

Mamadou Gara and Yussef Salia were given life sentences
Alinno Chima received a 27-year sentence
Brian Minthe was sentenced to 24 years
